Apple is set to implement a staggered release for its upcoming iPhone 18 lineup in 2026, aiming to streamline its product offerings and introduce a foldable model. According to reports from The Information, the Pro variants of the iPhone 18 are scheduled for a fall 2026 launch, while the standard iPhone 18 and a new version of the iPhone 16e are expected to debut in spring 2027.
This strategic decision reflects Apple’s response to an expanding iPhone portfolio, which is anticipated to include up to six models by 2026. The introduction of a foldable iPhone, potentially named the iPhone Flip, is planned for the fall of 2026. This device is expected to feature a book-style design with a 5.7-inch display when closed and nearly an 8-inch display when open. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the foldable iPhone will be 4.5–4.8mm thick when unfolded and will utilize Face ID technology.
In addition to hardware innovations, Apple is exploring manufacturing diversification. The company is considering producing the more affordable iPhone 18 models in India to mitigate risks associated with its reliance on Chinese manufacturing, especially in light of ongoing trade tensions and tariffs.
This phased approach allows Apple to manage its product lineup effectively while introducing significant innovations. By 2026, the iPhone lineup will encompass the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18, iPhone 16e, and the foldable iPhone, marking a notable expansion in Apple’s smartphone offerings.
