Amazon has formed a new group within its Amazon Web Services (AWS) division dedicated to advancing agentic artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to push the boundaries of autonomous automation, allowing systems to perform tasks independently without requiring continuous user input. Led by Swami Sivasubramanian, the former AWS vice president of AI and data, the newly established group will report directly to AWS CEO Matt Garman. Garman has highlighted agentic AI as a potential multi-billion-dollar business for AWS, underscoring its importance for the company’s future growth trajectory. The formation of this group is also part of a broader reorganization within AWS, where AI-driven teams like Bedrock and SageMaker, along with hardware engineering units, have been integrated into a new compute organization.
