Apple Unveils HomeView To Challenge Rivals

Apple is making a major push into the smart home market with HomeView, a dedicated hub built around its upgraded Siri assistant. The launch signals a renewed effort to challenge Amazon and Google as artificial intelligence reshapes connected household technology.
Unveiled on 13 October, HomeView features a seven-inch Liquid Retina display for walls or countertops. Its interface brings lighting, locks, thermostats and security camera feeds together, alongside FaceTime and Messages. The device offers a control point that Apple customers previously had to assemble using other products.
Personalisation is a key selling point. HomeView can recognise six faces and present tailored screens for different household members. Access to private information, including messages and calendars, requires an iPhone connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Apple is positioning this approach to authentication alongside Siri’s expanded conversational capabilities.
Compatibility is another priority. The hub supports existing Apple Home and Matter-compatible accessories, while partnerships with LG and Schneider Electric will broaden the range of connected locks, cameras and thermostats. These arrangements could make Apple's platform more practical for households using devices from different manufacturers.
HomeView arrives as Amazon and Google update their own smart home hardware for more capable AI assistants. Analysts see an opportunity to replace older, low-cost devices, but competition will increasingly depend on reliable assistance, privacy and ease of use rather than voice commands alone. Apple's integrated ecosystem provides an advantage, although expectations for Siri remain high.
The commercial impact is still uncertain. Apple does not report smart home revenue separately, making the market's contribution difficult to measure. HomeView's success will ultimately depend on whether its AI features deliver convincing everyday benefits and persuade consumers to adopt another screen at home.
