BMW Group is advancing preparations for the world premiere of the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase, a new electric Sports Activity Vehicle tailored primarily for China and underpinned by the company’s latest Neue Klasse architecture. The model, which will make its official global debut at the Beijing Auto Show 2026 before entering the market later in the year, embodies BMW’s strategy of integrating advanced EV technologies with region-specific design and engineering, while also shaping future global offerings.
The extended-wheelbase variant increases the standard iX3’s wheelbase by 108 millimetres to enhance rear-seat space and overall cabin comfort, responding to premium segment expectations in the Chinese market. Despite the longer wheelbase, engineers have maintained the dynamic proportions and balanced driving character typical of BMW’s SAVs by adapting chassis and suspension setups specifically for regional driving conditions, seeking a refined blend of comfort and agility.
Central to the iX3 Long Wheelbase is the introduction of BMW Panoramic iDrive, a next-generation human-machine interface built on BMW Operating System X designed to improve driver focus while providing extensive digital functionality. The vehicle also benefits from an 800-volt electrical structure with sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology and in-house developed battery systems. This foundation enables an extended range performance and rapid charging, with the ability to add significant mileage in short charging intervals and support for vehicle-to-load capability, enhancing everyday use scenarios.
